Starkey was founded by William Austin. In 1967 before Starkey he started a Hearing Aid Service which offered an all-make hearing instrument repair service in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. In 1971 he purchases Starkey Laboratories, a small earmold company, from Harold Starkey.
Austin merged the two Professions kept the Starkey name and in 1973 he released his first Starkey custom in-the-ear hearing aid the CE-1, and the rest is history. with an industry first 90-day trial period and 1-year “Worry Free” warranty.
Starkey releases variations of the first CE in the following years. Soon after, Starkey becomes the world’s leading manufacturer of custom hearing instruments.
